Working to Eliminate Violence Against Women
Working to Eliminate Violence Against Women
November 25th is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Today we commence 16 days of activism against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). As Secretary Clinton said in November 2009, "Today and every day, women and girls all over the world will face violence simply because they are female. This gender-based violence not only harms the victims and their families, it shreds the fabric that weaves us together as human beings." Here Sarah Kerwegi and Maria Nassali of the Ugandan Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA) discuss FIDA’s work to combat sexual and gender-based violence and empower women to speak out about abuses.
