DCM visits CURE Children's hospital
On January 14, Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Virginia Blaser was chief guest at CURE children’s Hospital of Uganda (CCHU) to celebrate the tenth anniversary since the hospital opened in Mbale. CCHU specializes in treating the neurosurgical needs of children with an emphasis on hydrocephalus, neural tube defects, spina bifida, epilepsy and brain tumors. In its first ten years of service, the hospital has treated over 45,000 children and has provided more than 8,000 life-saving surgeries.
CCHU has received more than $7 million over the last decade through contributions from private American citizens and U.S. federal government grants through the Unites States Agency for International Development (USAID) to help these children in need.
Since 2005, USAID grants have provided funds for CCHU to purchase a CT scanner for improved diagnostics, improve operating room capabilities for both surgical and diagnostic procedures, provide equipment for the hospital’s operating room and Intensive Care Unit.
