The U.S. Embassy alerts U.S. citizens traveling and residing in Uganda during the December 2011 and January 2012 holiday season of the persistent threat of terrorist attacks against the U.S. Embassy in Kampala, and other high-value targets, including crowded public places where security arrangements may be more limited.  Regional terrorist groups, such as al-Qa’ida East Africa and al-Shabaab, remain actively interested in pursuing attacks against U.S. interests in Uganda, and we encourage all U.S. citizens to exercise vigilance and practice good personal security habits.

The U.S. Embassy in Kampala encourages U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for the most up-to-date security information.  Keep all of your information in STEP up to date by maintaining your current phone numbers and email addresses where you can be reached in case of an emergency.
