Embassy Appreciates Uganda Government Hurricane Katrina Support
The United States Embassy in Kampala greatly appreciates the expressions of sympathy and support for Hurricane Katrina victims that we have received from President Museveni and the Ugandan government, as well as private citizens. Many government representatives and individuals have come to the Embassy to sign our Condolence Book; others have conveyed their sympathy by letter, telephone and e-mail, or in conversation with Embassy staff.
We particularly thank the Ugandan government for its generous pledge of $200,000 to the relief effort. These contributions of money, aid and support mean a great deal to the victims of the Hurricane’s devastation and to all Americans. We are deeply grateful for and heartened by the outpouring of concern and offers of assistance from people around the world.
We have received inquiries regarding donations to victim relief funds. Please note that the U.S. Embassy is not itself soliciting contributions for its official relief operations. However, individuals who would like to make donations are encouraged to consider a special hurricane relief fund established by former Presidents Bush and Clinton. The easiest method to make donations is through the fund’s website emergency link www.bushclintonkatrinafund.org.
For those who cannot make online donations, the fund will accept donations through the mail at either of the former president’s offices: Office of President Clinton, Re: Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, 55 W125th Street, New York, NY 10027 or Office of President Bush, Re: Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund, 10000 Memorial Drive, Suite 900, Houston, TX 77024. There are, of course, many other charities and organizations aiding in the relief effort, a partial listing of which can be found at the following website: http://usinfo.state.gov/.
