Pader District Referral Hospital Dedication
Pader, Lira District, Uganda –The new Pader District Referral Hospital was dedicated here on Tuesday, May 5 at 10 a.m. Colonel Lorrie Oldham, CJTF-HOA Surgeon Cell officer in charge, was the guest speaker at the ceremony. Service members from the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), representatives of the government of Uganda, and the U.S. Embassy also participated in the dedication. Funded by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency’s Overseas Humanitarian, Disaster and Civic Assistance fund, the $369,000 facility was built by the Padeb Construction LTD and includes construction of a 2,015 square meter Outpatient Department building and 360 square meter Operation and Surgical Theatre. The level IV facility was built in accordance with the National Health Infrastructure Development Plan provided by the government of the Republic of Uganda Ministry of Health. This project is one of several civilian affairs projects carried out or coordinated by CJTF-HOA. These projects are part of the United States Government’s overall support for peace, reconstruction and development in the north.
The hospital will improve access to health care for all the residents of Pader District, including many formerly internally displaced persons who are now returning to farm in their home villages. The hospital will provide preventative care and treat HIV and opportunistic infections.
CJTF-HOA works in coordination with diplomatic and development efforts, as well as other interagency, AFRICOM, and international partners towards a common goal of a more secure and stable African continent.
