What is a Podcast and how do I subscribe?

A podcast is rich media, such as audio or video, distributed via RSS (Really Simple Syndication), and provides updates whenever there is new content. You can listen to the files on your computer or load them on your media player.

To get started, all you need is a web-based podcaster, such as the ones listed below. You will then add the content feed to the podcaster by copying and pasting the provided URL into the software. The software will automatically check for updates and download the files to your computer.

    In this clip, Peace Corps Volunteer Matthew Boddie describes his “Nightwatch” project, a nationwide campaign designed to reduce malaria in Uganda by increasing use of insecticide-treated bed nets. Matthew, who works under the supervision of the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI), organized several well-known figures in Uganda—including Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi—to record short clips urging Ugandans to get under their bed nets every night.

    Get your family's health sorted in one day at the Rotary Family Health Days, May 9 - 11

    The U.S. Mission Uganda is joining forces with Rotary in Uganda, Rotarians For Family Health & AIDS Prevention, Inc., the Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, Century Bottling Company Limited, the AIDS Information Centre, and the Ministry of Health to announce Rotary Family Health Days 2013. From May 9th to 11th over 60 Rotary Clubs and their partners will provide free health services at 140 sites across Uganda. The health services include HIV testing and counseling, malaria screening and treatment, diabetes testing and general medical check-ups, among others. This clip features Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Mission Uganda, Virginia Blaser, and Stephen Mwanje, a director of Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention, discussing Rotary Family Health Days.

    U.S. Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi celebrates World Health Day

    In celebration of World Health Day, on April 10 the U.S. Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi delivered a major health policy speech to a standing room only crowd of medical students and professors at Makerere University's College of Health Sciences. Also in attendance were Ministry of Health officials, members of parliament, journalists, and representatives from the health community along with other U.S. Embassy leadership including the Deputy Chief of Mission, the PEPFAR Coordinator, the Peace Corps Country Director, USAID's Deputy Mission Director, the CDC Country Director, and the country program directors for NIH and Makerere University's Walter Reed Project. The speech, titled, "The U.S. Government and the People of Uganda - Working Together for a Healthier Future," highlighted two key messages: Ugandans must own the future of their health care and the American people stand in partnership with Uganda as it works toward a healthier future. This clip features the entire speech.

    Apps4Africa is an annual, Africa-wide competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of State in partnership with Appfrica International. Apps4Africa 2012--the third annual contest--challenged innovators to develop sustainable, technology-based solutions to youth unemployment. The three winners, including Ugandan Titus Mawano with his app "Ffene," a low-cost business management platform, were honored at a March 6, 2013, closing ceremony at Kampala's Hive Colab, where Ambassador DeLisi and Deputy Assistant Secretary Pelletier congratulated the winning teams. In this clip, Deputy Assistant Secretary Pelletier discusses the importance of technology in moving Africa forward, and emphasizes the U.S. Government's continued commitment to supporting African innovators.

  • U.S efforts to promote peace and security
    U.S. Mission in Uganda Partners with Ugandan Police Force to Promote Community Policing and Counterterrorism.

    This clip features Dr. Nicholas Walling of the U.S. Mission in Uganda, along with Assistant Superintendent of Police Philbert Waibi. The U.S.-Ugandan community policing and counterterrorism project aims to improve communities’ relations with their local police while improving counterterrorism effectiveness. Four teams of trainers, composed of instructors from the Uganda Police Force Training Academy in Masindi and officers from the Counterterrorism Unit in Kampala, have been travelling around Uganda for more than two months to reach local police and the communities they serve. In each community, the trainers teach local police a community problem-solving method, and then conduct a live community forum, which includes a terrorism awareness program. So far the teams have trained approximately 700-800 police officers in the community policing model, and have hosted approximately 15,000 people in community forums across Uganda.

Uganda’s maternal mortality rate continues at an unacceptably high level, with as many as 13,000 women and girls dying each year due to pregnancy-related complications.  Improving maternal health in Uganda is a top priority for the U.S. Government.
