Twelve girls and two coaches from Girls Kick It! Football team will participate in a Soccer International Visitor Program, which is scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. from October 14-24, 2009 , under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of State.
The team is based in Paicho sub-county, Gulu District and comprises Jennifer Aloyo, Kevin Arach, Sarah Lakot, Nancy Lakot, Kevin Apiyo, Concy Acaa, Jackline Atim, Sarah Oyella, Babra Adoch, Janet Apiyo, Mirriam Onekalit and Jennifer Acan. The team coaches are Richard Onen and Moses Oketayot.
The main goals of the program include engaging players by highlighting the major role that soccer plays and provide players with an opportunity to discover how success in athletics, with an emphasis on team work, respect and leadership, can be translated into development of life skills and achievement.
Activities will include playing soccer, teambuilding and leadership activities, meeting with organizations that work with soccer and other sports in the U.S., workshops on current issues, visits to important historical sites, and cultural activities.
